Secrets to Successful Dog Behavior Training
Whether you have had your dog for some time or have just welcomed a new puppy into your home, efficient dog behavior training is paramount to an organized household. You need to ensure that your dog is obedient and has no grave behavior issues whatsoever. But how can you have successful dog behavior training? Read on.
Dog Behavior Training Mindset
Before beginning training with your dog, it is vital that you have the right attitude and mindset. Training a dog to have good behavior is not a piece of cake. It is not always as easy as walking your dog in the park training. You really have to be motivated to get the job done. Whether your dog is into digging, excessive barking, chewing or other dog behavior problems, patience is utmost important. Never feel overly agitated or frustrated if you want this endeavor to succeed.
Start with the basic commands like sit, stay and come. You must develop the authority over your dog through these simple commands. Have the power to tell them to stay or sit. Knowing these commands will come in handy for just about anything down the road.
Dog behavior training requires some bribery
Never forget your dog treats. Treats are the trick for effective dog training. Every dog enjoys a flavorful treat so use this to your advantage. When your dog follows your instructions properly, reward them with a treat. If they do not respond to your command, do not give the treat. It’ as simple as that. Never yell and scream at your dog as this will accomplish nothing. You want to no longer have the scared dog.
The next important step to having successful dog behavior training is to train your dog away from distractions. No matter how smart your dog is, it will succumb to a good toy or some other kind of distraction. For this reason, it is best to do your training to an empty field or park where there are no people. Allow your dog to focus strictly on what you are teaching.
Repetition and consistency are crucial to helping your dog learn proper behavior. Repeat what you are teaching your dog a number of times so he can get an understanding of what you really want him to do. Remember, your dog needs to develop a good habit or routine and that does not come overnight.
When you perform dog behavior training, make sure you remember to stay calm, patient and relaxed. It does not have to be a stressful activity.
Dog behavior training should be fun for both you and your pal.
