It’s natural for a dog to pull when walking on a leash, however it can be rather dangerous for both the pet and owner the owner. Such scenario can cause injury to the dog, such as in its neck, shoulder, front legs, and more. Don’t forget to carry treats to reward your pet for good leash manners. Choose soft treats that can easily be eaten. These treats must be special enough that your dog only gets on training walks.

It is recommended to play with your dog to drive out some of her excess energy before going on training walks.

Remember to keep a fast pace when walking. This will help in maintaining your dog's attention so it will be less inclined to stop.

On the other hand, also allow some time for your dog to sniff and go potty on its walk. Give your pet a short time frame to do this. After this, lightly tug on the leash and use the words like “Let’s Go!”, "Hurry Up!" or “Let’s Walk”. 

If your dog gets excessively excited at your movement toward the leash, begin instilling good leash behavior.  Every time you pick up the leash and your canine starts twirling or jumping with excitement, try to give the stop and sit command. If it does not obey you, put away the leash, take a seat, and wait for a few minutes before doing it again. When your dog finally gets the message, give hit lots of praise, hook on the leash and proceed with your leash walk training.

And as with most things, patience, positive reinforcement, and consistency are the key towards success in leash training your dog.
