Shock Training Collars

Guideline for Shock Training Collars

Using a shock training collar, or electronic training device to your dog is relatively easy and safe if you, as owner, completely understand the basic guidelines of using it.

For many dog owners, the mere mentioning of training their dog with an electronic collar is very unacceptable. However, the principle of shock training collars are actually founded on humane dog training. The use of this training device for cruelty purposes totally depends on the trainer and their intentions.

How do shock training collars work?

Shock training collars work by allowing the handler to give the dog very small, electric shock with a hand held remote, with the intention to modify their bad behavior. The intensity of the shock is totally controlled by the handler. The shock must be set at a level that makes the dogs ears jerk in response. If the dog reacts by barking then the setting is too high and must be adjusted accordingly.

To reiterate, an electronic dog collar should always be used with care and caution. Dog owners must read all instruction manuals and videos before starting the dog training with this device.

Instructions on using shock training collars

First, buy a collar that has various levels of correction available, including a tone button. And charge the collar as the manual instructs. Then put the collar on your dog for a few days without turning it on. Your dog must not relate his new collar with the correction.

Also, never let the dog see you use the hand-held correction device. You wouldn’t want your pal to associate the shock to you. When your pet is misbehaving, give him a direct and firm "No!" But if he still does not obey, secretly give a low correction rate.

If your dog is too stubborn and does not stop the bad behavior at the first correction, you can increase the correction by a notch. But remember, you should not need to use a correction very much.

Safety for shock training collars

It is important to note that you need to start the shock at the lowest setting possible. If the dog becomes excessively aggressive and loud after being shocked, then you might have the shock level up to much. Make sure to decrease it properly. You want to discipline your dog, not cause it pain or panic.

When it comes to dog training techniques, using a shock training collar can be an effective tool. However, positive results are only gained when shock training collars are used properly and safely.
